Friday 6 September

Last week was our final week of Senior ALiM lessons and now we are into the testing to see what gains the students have made.  Unfortunately, there was no blog last week as the school internet was not working.

The Nice or Nasty game.

Great place value practice.

After we had played the 'standard' Nice or Nasty game, we tried lots of different variations:
  • lowest number
  • give away your third roll
  • use a decimal point
  • closest to a target number
  • a six digit number
  • play as a team
Working as a team to make the basic fact bubble puzzle.

Everyone made up their own problem for people to practice our subtracting trick.  When there are lots of zeros, subtract one from each number and then you still get the same difference.  Much easier! (40000-5378 as 39999-5377)

Place value pebbles!

We gave each colour a value.  Yellow = ten thousands, orange=thousands, purple = hundreds, red = tens and green = ones.
