Congratulations to Jason and Ella who are now in the 'sumdog' club.  Fantastic!

Week 7 ALiM

Here we are making numbers on the abacus.  We also used these to look at multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

Initially people just divided $10.00 by three - which is tricky.  Then Mrs Culling asked the relevance of the ages of the children.  This encouraged everyone to come up with different ways to share the money based on ages, the child's ability to understand the value of money and how much work it was likely that the child did around the home.  This prompted a lot of discussion.  Georgia told us about her big sister's part time job and we worked out around about how much she earned over three days, per shift, per hour and in a year.

How are you dividing the pocket money fairly Jason?

George has made a decimal number on his deci-pipe.  It looks like he's thinking hard!
Monique and George are ordering the decimal numbers on the bottle tops.  It took a few goes!  Mrs Culling encouraged them to think about how each number would look on the decipipe and look at the digit in the tenths place.
                                                                            Success!

Making, ordering and comparing decimal numbers on the decipipes.

Ella has won $120.00 worth of products from the warehouse and she's cutting her items out of a catalogue.

Everyone bought a variety of objects.  Great fun to pretend to go shopping!
